Pierce had been tapping his expensive fountain pen monotonously on the sleek glass top of his desk as his light blue eyes surveyed James closely. The tapping abruptly stopped and he folded his hands in front of him. “Why the change of heart?”
James shrugged. “Does there need to be a reason?” he asked.
( “There is always a reason with you Campbell,” Pierce returned in amusement. He took a slow sip of his double espresso. “You were adamant you wanted to stay a field agent. You were adamant you wanted to stay a field agent at Owens’ side. So, either you want out of field work you want away from Owens’. I’m going with Door Number Two.” )
